Soccer

Soccer is one of the main sports in St Francis College and our teams have done extremely well in recent times, so much so that Rochestown College is now one of the teams to be feared in Munster and Ireland Schoolboys soccer. The school competes at the top level in all age groups.

Many of our players represent Cork panels at U13, U14, U15 and U16 level and the College has had some International representation throughout the years through the likes of David O Leary (U-17 in 2010), Gordon Walker (U18 in 2018) and Harry Nevin (U15 in 2020). Some of our junior and senior stars also play in the U13, U15, U17 and U19 Elite league with Cork City and Cobh Ramblers.

Success has been down to the ability of the College to attract talent from the surrounding clubs of Corrinthians, Avondale, Carrigaline, Ringmahon, Douglas Hall, Passage and Springfield in Cobh. In fact, St Francis College is now the school of choice for players from these clubs.

Many of our teachers/coaches have UEFA coaching badges and have coached at a very high level and have had huge success in school competitions. In Cathal Lordan and Eoin O’Flaherty, we have two teachers who have played professional football in England. Stephen Bermingham is involved at a high level constantly on the Cork scene and is involved with Cork squads, Kennedy Cup and Emerging Talent. He also managed Cork City U19s to a National league title and during their time in the Youth Champions League. Derick Murray has won multiple Collingwood medals with UCC and managed several successful teams including All Ireland winners, while David Donovan has managed several school teams to All Ireland titles.
