Premiership Tour

The Premier League Educational Tour is a longstanding excursion that celebrated it’s 13th anniversary in 2019/2020.  The students have seen some top teams and players since 2008 and many fun-filled weekends were a highlight of the students’ time in the school. It’s hard to pick out the best game over the years as we’ve seen some top sides at their peak including Manchester United, Aresnal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester City. It all started with Manchester United clinching a point with a late equalizer through Carlos Tevez at Blackburn Rovers in 2008, a point that helped them secure the title in April of that year. Also playing that day was future five-time Ballon D’Or winner Ronaldo, still plying his trade with Juventus and one of the greatest players of all time.

Another memorable game was Man City’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea in December 2009. Tevez again scored in the second half this time in the blue of Manchester. It was soon after the investment by Sheikh Mansour in Man City, which has resulted in them being the top team in the League over recent years. The Chelsea men went on to win the league and cup double that year under Carlos Ancelloti  scoring 103 goals on their way to the title. As you can imagine the City faithful revelled in their victory that day.

Perhaps the most amazing game also involved Manchester City who defeated Aresnal 6-3 in 2013/14. Aresnal were leading the league at the time but were put to the sword by a rampant City side who went on to clinch the title and League Cup that year under Manuel Pellegrini.

Another interesting component of the trips is the stadium tours, which give a behind the scenes look at how the Premier League giants operate. Some of the stadiums we have visited include Old Trafford, Anfield and the Etihad stadium. Students have sat in the dressing rooms and the dug outs and got a feel for what it’s like to be the superstars of the game.

The Premier League tour always encompasses other educational experiences and we have criss- crossed the museum circuit all over the North West of England. We’ve had very educational tours of the Imperial War Museum, The Museum of Liverpool and The Manchester Museum of Industry and Science to name but a few. Finally, thanks to all the teachers who gave up their weekends to make the trip possible for the students down through the years.

So, whether it’s sport, knowledge or simply fun with your friends the Premier League educational tour has delivered the thrills and spills since 2008.
